The Hong Kong Pulse Light Festival kicked off.
The biggest-ever outdoor light art display adds dazzle to Hong Kong winter
This winter, Hong Kong¡¯s festive ambience will be stronger than ever. The Hong Kong Pulse Light Festival, a new mega event organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and co-organised by the Tourism Commission, was officially launched this evening (November 29). From today until 24 February 2019, the Hong Kong Pulse Light Festival will bring to residents and visitors the first-ever ¡°International Light Art Display¡± in town, an enhanced version of the light-and-music show ¡°A Symphony of Lights¡±, and the iconic Christmas Tree in Statue Square presented by the Bank of Communications. This year¡¯s New Year Countdown Celebration is also one of key events of the Hong Kong Pulse Light Festival.
The launch ceremony for the Hong Kong Pulse Light Festival was held this evening, and officiating guests included Mrs Carrie Lam, The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr Joe C C Wong, The Commissioner for Tourism of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and Dr Peter Lam, Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board.
Dr Peter Lam, Chairman of the HKTB, said, ¡°Winter has always been an important promotion period for the HKTB. The winter season in Hong Kong is well-known for its festive lighting and fireworks displays. Many visitors, especially those from short-haul markets, like to celebrate the festive season in Hong Kong during this period. For the first time, we will hold the Hong Kong Pulse Light Festival this year. Combining the elements of light, music and entertainment, it will be the largest outdoor light festival in Hong Kong. Together with the celebration activities held at various attractions by different organisations in the city, it will reinforce Hong Kong as the preferred winter holiday destination for visitors.¡±
Mr Joe C C Wong, the Commissioner for Tourism commented that Hong Kong is a city of vibrancy with a fascinating array of mega events throughout the year. This year, the HKTB is introducing the ¡°Hong Kong Pulse Light Festival¡± blending light, music and creative ideas. The Harbour will be lighted up by different light art installations created by international and local artists in the Central Harbourfront as well as the enhanced ¡°A Symphony of Lights¡± with more participating buildings, ambient lighting effects and pyrotechnic for the enjoyment of both visitors and locals.
First ¡°International Light Art Display¡±
Also held in Hong Kong for the first time will be the ¡°International Lighting Art Display¡±, which is organized by the HKTB and co-organized by the Tourism Commission. Exhibition includes 14 creative light art installations from around the world, which have been well-received at different international light festivals, and four creations by local artists. The artworks fall under three main themes: 1) technology and communication; 2) childhood dreams; and 3) connections and romance. Not only are these works of art unique in shape and style, they are also different in day and night, offering excellent backgrounds and props for photography and social media check-ins. In addition, some of the installations are interactive, transforming the Central Waterfront Promenade into an artistic theme park of lights and visuals. For example, at the LightPiano, visitors can change the lighting arrangement through the touch of piano keys to create their own unique musical light show. They can also interact with the lights while riding a rocking horse to enjoy some childhood memories. The four local artworks are full of local characteristics, highlighting different unique features of Hong Kong street scenes, with design elements featuring pawn shop signs, bamboo scaffolding and skyscrapers.
XTree, one of the light installations from France, will further enhance the Christmas ambience. The 25-metre-high steel-ribbed innovative Christmas tree perfectly integrates lighting and sound effects and will present a spectacular performance every 20 minutes during the evening. It will surely become a new Christmas landmark this winter, providing an unprecedented festive experience for visitors and locals.
Enhanced version of ¡°A Symphony of Lights¡±
In addition to the lights and music, Victoria Habour wil
be more dazzling than ever this winter! ¡°A Symphony of Lights¡±, which is well-loved by locals and visitors alike, will be further enhanced. Starting on 29 November, three more buildings and one more attraction will participate in the show, increasing the number of participating buildings and attractions to 42 and 2 respectively. The lighting effects on some buildings, such as the Central Government Offices, Legislative Council Complex, One Exchange Square and Sun Hung Kai Centre, as well as the sound effects at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, will also be strengthened. What¡¯s more, pyrotechnic will be launched from the rooftops of Harbour Centre, Harcourt House and Cheung Kong Centre on designated nights, making this large-scale multimedia show even more impressive.
Iconic Christmas Tree presented by the Bank of Communications
Just as in many lovely previous Christmases, the Christmas Tree at Statue Square in Central will be here for Christmas again this year! Presented by the Bank of Communications this year, the 19-metre-high iconic Christmas Tree, decorated in a white-Christmas theme, will no doubt become a photo hotspot for locals and visitors once again.
