When the clock struck midnight, the numerals ¡°2019¡± lit up the façade of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), and fireworks, pyrotechnics and lighting effects were launched at various elevations, synchronised with a soundtrack, creating a multi-sensation spectacle. Various new elements were injected into this year¡¯s show, including multi-award winning fireworks by an Italian fireworks maker for the very first time, creating a fascinating ¡°Celestial Kaleidoscope¡±. The fireworks patterns and colours were like a changing kaleidoscope, captivating spectators. In the grand finale, 45 varying firework patterns, including peonies, daisies, cherry blossoms and violets, filled the sky within a minute, turning the night sky above Victoria Harbour into a mesmerising ocean of flowers. Other auspicious patterns including candies, smiley faces and hearts were also featured signifying prosperity.
In addition to the stunning fireworks, from 11pm onwards, pyrotechnic ¡°shooting stars¡±
in four different colours were launched from three buildings on HongKong Island, and popular singers and groups graced the stage on the Hong Kong Cultural Centre (HKCC) Viewing Deck. Their performances were projected in real time on the façade of the HKCC to heat up the crowds.
This year, the HKTB again broadcast the show live via satellite to major media organisations around the globe and arranged real-time coverage on its social media platforms to spread the festive atmosphere and the magnificent view of Victoria Harbour worldwide.
