Organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and title-sponsored by China Construction Bank (Asia), the four-day CCB (Asia) Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival kicked off today (22 October) at the Central Harbourfront Event Space. This year¡¯s festival is the biggest ever by far, presenting wines from 23 countries and regions and other alcoholic drinks, as well as an elevated food experience.
The opening ceremony of the CCB (Asia) Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival, held this evening, was performed by Mr John Tsang, Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; Mr Gregory So, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development; Mr Philip Yung, Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Commerce, Industry and Tourism); Dr Peter Lam, Chairman of the HKTB; Mr Pierre Goguet, President of the Bordeaux Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and representative of the Bordeaux International Wine & Dine Festival Organization, the event¡¯s co-organiser; Mr Stephan Delaux, Deputy Mayor of Bordeaux; Mr Bernard Farges, President of the Bordeaux Wine Council; and Mr Mao Yu-min, Chief Executive Officer of China Construction Bank (Asia), the event¡¯s title sponsor.
The CCB (Asia) Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival opens to the public at 8pm today for an admission fee of HK$30. Highlights of this year¡¯s event include:
* Hong Kong¡¯s largest-ever Wine & Dine Festival
* This year¡¯s festival features nearly 350 wine and food booths, the largest number in the event¡¯s history and 30% more than last year.
* The broadest selection of wine and liquor yet
* Wine from 23 countries and regions are presented, the most in the festival¡¯s history.
* Whisky and craft beer are introduced for the first time.
* Sommeliers provide professional recommendations to patrons in the Wine Expert Zone.
* More for the taste buds
* The festival features over 110 food booths, about 50% more than last year, many of them operated by some of the city¡¯s finest hotels and dining establishments.
* The brand new Star Avenue and Gourmet Trails present delicacies created by Michelin-starred and other award-winning restaurants.
* Delectable programmes are on offer in the Tasting Room, including a luncheon and dinner jointly prepared by chefs from French and Hong Kong Michelin-starred restaurants and Best of the Best Culinary Awards-winning chefs on 24 & 25 October. During the afternoon on both days, Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong will serve its signature afternoon tea.
* Special décor
* The festival venue has been specially decorated to create a relaxing ambience, and a new canopied area, called the ¡°Garden Party¡±, has been set up, with special lighting in the evening.
The CCB (Asia) Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival is the kick-off event for Hong Kong Wine & Dine Month. Throughout November, major dining districts and the catering sector will roll out a wave of food- and wine-themed activities, with hotels and restaurants providing special dining promotions to create a citywide celebration of Hong Kong¡¯s status as the culinary capital of Asia.
